Sad to report that Jim Barnes passed away last night after a short illness. A founder member of Stockton & DMC he was secretary of the meeting for the early Stocktonian rallies in the 60’s and through his contacts with John Brown became Regional Organiser of the London MC Gulf rallies from 65 to 68. He took over from Lewis Jamieson as Regional Organiser for the RAC Rally and was also involved in Results on the first Jim Clark Rally in 1970 in the days before computers, ably assisted by his late wife Janet.
He was a shift control engineer with the CEGB which gave him the time to organise his rallying commitments and he certainly gave plenty of his time to the sport far many, many years.
