News from the 2015 Mintex MSA British Historic Rally Championship
Press release – 28 July 2015
BHRC Harry Flatters award winners announced
The special award winners in the fifth round of the 2015 Mintex MSA British Historic Rally Championship, the Harry Flatters Rally (Sunday 26 July) have been announced following the rally that also featured the fifth round of the Holton Homes Clubmans Challenge and the final round of the Motorsport Auctions Welsh Challenge.
The Holton Homes Clubmans Challenge is for crews using a maximum of six tyres per rally. The top overall finishers from the Clubmans Challenge field were Phil and Mick Squires in their Ford Escort Mk2.
New overall championship leaders Jason Pritchard and Phil Clarke are confirmed as winners in the Motorsport Auctions Welsh Challenge. This is their first award for the 2015 season and they will now be hoping that bigger awards will follow at the end of the season. While Jason is from Builth Wells, Phil lives just over the border near Church Stretton in Shropshire.
The ‘Spirit of the Rally’ product award from Fuchs Lubricants went to Bob and Dale Gibbons for the second event running. After a major effort to get the engine in their Ford Cortina Mk2 rebuilt, they led Category 1 all day until a broken driveshaft put them out with just one mile to go.
Malcolm Rich and Jonathan Hawkins (Ford Anglia) had a great rally on home ground and collected the award for the ‘Best Improvement on Seeding’, which is a set of axle brake pads from Mintex.
Finally, Neil Williams won the ‘Hard Charger’ award of a 20-litre jerry can from Green Valley Industrial Supplies. He scored his best BHRC result to date with a fine run to third overall on the rally and second only to Pritchard among the BHRC contenders.
